Authorities have since removed the content, but investigators believe the files were stored on overseas servers, making complete removal and identification of the hackers more challenging.

Instead, the hackers were allegedly searching for potentially valuable material to sell on amateur websites or to gather information for possible burglaries. The couple’s identity only became public after the illegal videos had already circulated online.

Adding to the shock, just days before the incident, gossip media reported that De Martino and Tronelli’s relationship was becoming more serious, with rumours that they planned to live together at her home — the same home now at the centre of this serious invasion of privacy.
